Decking tiles

Decking tiles interlock on a drainage base and sit straight on a slab, tiles or a balcony, with no frame. NewTechWood’s composite tiles, for example, are 600 × 300 mm, with 1.8 m² per box of 10.

What decking tiles are

Decking tiles are interlocking panels with a drainage base that sit directly on a hard, level surface such as a slab, tiles or a balcony. They need no frame.

A verified example

NewTechWood’s DIY composite deck tiles are 600 × 300 mm, sold in boxes of 10 that cover 1.8 m². They are fully capped composite with a drainage grid underneath, and NewTechWood says they are made from 95% recycled material.

To estimate boxes, divide your area in m² by 1.8 and round up, then add a little for cuts at the edges.

Tiles or a framed deck

Tiles suit balconies and small patios. For larger or raised areas, a framed deck on an aluminium subframe or timber is the better option.
