Editorial policy
Principles
A correct answer comes before traffic or commission, and that one rule settles most editorial decisions.
Specs come from the manufacturer’s own pages or documents, and rules from official bodies such as GOV.UK, the Planning Portal and the ABCB. Each product spec, price and supplier record carries the date we checked it.
Where a manufacturer doesn’t publish a figure, the page says “Not published” instead of guessing. We don’t estimate specs, ratings or prices, and we haven’t lab-tested a single product.
Some pages also use practical advice from installers’ videos: the order of work, common mistakes, what surprised people. We take technique from those and never specs, spans or safety figures, and we link the videos we used.
Page status
Every page moves through planned, draft, verified, tested, ready and published. A draft can still be opened, but it is labelled as one and kept out of search engines until someone has checked its claims against the manufacturer’s own documents. Ready pages are the ones we stand behind.
Safety-relevant content
Joist spans, support spacing, load ratings, balustrades and approvals affect safety. We publish figures only from manufacturer documentation or regulations, and we send you to a qualified professional where a decision needs one.
